What makes a quote come back accurate
Send a reference, even a rough one
A style number from any catalogue, a screenshot, or a phone photo of a competitor piece. A picture settles in one message what a written description takes three rounds to pin down — and we quote your version of it, not theirs.
Give a quantity tier, not an exact number
"Sample first", "a few hundred", "several thousand" is enough to price the right production path. The wrong path is the single most common reason a quote comes back looking odd.
State a grading floor rather than an ideal
"Eye-clean, near-colourless, excellent cut, IGI certified, 0.90–1.00 ct" is a production specification. A single letter grade is a negotiating position that gets revisited at sampling and moves the price.
Name your target price band
Buyers sometimes withhold this expecting a better number. In manufacturing it works the opposite way: knowing the band lets us propose the metal weight, stone programme and setting method that reach it, instead of quoting something you were never going to buy.
Raise compliance in the first message
Hallmarking, documentation, audit standards, market-specific requirements. Retrofitting compliance after a production run is the most expensive way to discover a requirement.
